CalFire officials are warning of a scam after a Santa Clara County resident received a call requesting a donation to pay for training of firefighters.

CalFire, which is funded by the state, does not solicit donations.

CalFire is asking residents receiving a fraudulent phone call to attempt to get as much information as possible and report the call to CalFire officials at 778-0930.

“We hope that by getting the word out early no one will give their money to these criminals. If residents do get a call from a scammer they will be prepared to gather pertinent information so we can put a stop to this,” said Josh White, CalFire deputy chief of Law Enforcement in a press release.
