Local author Dave Keane to sign his book

Free tax preparation services for low income

Gilroy – Low income families making less than $38,000 a year are eligible for free tax preparation services. These services are offered at St. Francis Center of Assisi located near First and Church streets Wednesdays from 4:30 to 7:30pm, and at three other locations in San Jose.

Gav concert choir

Gilroy – The Gavilan College Concert Choir begins its Spring semester Feb. 6. The choir is under the direction of Phillip Robb and meets every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:45pm at the Gilroy High School choir room. The choir is open to all singers, college-age and above. Reading music is helpful, but not required.

This Spring semester the choir will work on a variety of music bridging Baroque to Broadway. Singers may register at the Gavilan College Registrar’s Office, or pick up materials Feb. 6, the first night of class.

Gilroy – Gilroy High will hold an open house from 6:15 to 8:30pm, Feb. 6. The GHS choir, band and cheerleaders will perform special presentations.

Gavilan College offers GED Prep class

Gilroy – Gavilan College is offering a free GED/ high school exit exam prep class in English and Spanish. Classes are offered from 9am to noon, at the South Valley School of Science and Global Studies, 385 100F Ave., every Saturday starting Feb. 3.

Polenta dinner benefits ICF charities

Gilroy – Italian Catholic Federation Branch No. 28 presents its seventh annual Polenta Dinner to be prepared by Chef Mario Fiorio and crew, Feb. 3, St. Mary Church Cullen Hall, 11 First St.

All proceeds benefit ICF charities. Take-out dinner available after 5:30pm; bring your own containers. Dinner to be served from 6pm to 7pm Public invited, donation $12 for adults and $5 children younger than 10. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Spirit girls’ softball league signups

San Martin – The Spirit Girls’ Softball League is still accepting registrations for girls ages 5 to 18.

The season runs from March until May with teams formed in February. All games are played at San Martin-Gwinn Elementary School.
