Lady Mustangs garner the No. 3-seed in the Division I bracket
and will have a first-round bye.
Their seasons may not have ended exactly as they had planned – both squads dropped one-run heartbreakers to rival San Benito last Thursday – but the Gilroy High baseball and softball teams’ seasons take on new life this week.

First-year manager Johnny Ramirez and a skilled group of seniors helped the baseball team to a postseason berth, earning the No. 5-seed in the Central Coast Section Division I playoffs and will host a home playoff game.

The Mustangs (17-9-1) welcome No. 12 Oak Grove for a first-round matchup scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Eagles (17-7-1), out of the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League, finished second behind undefeated Willow Glen.

GHS wrapped up its league season in second place behind San Benito, who drew the No. 2 seed.

Archbishop Mitty grabbed the No. 1-seed in the Div. I bracket. The Monarchs beat the Mustangs 5-4 during the Lions Easter Tournament in late March.

If the Mustangs prevail, they in all likelihood would face Serra in the second round. The No. 4-seeded Padres host No. 13 Silver Creek in the opening round.

Gilroy was ousted in the first round last season by Saint Francis.

The Lady Mustangs will have to wait until Saturday to find out who they will face in their CCS opener.

With their reputation preceding them, and a solid 15-7 mark, GHS garnered the No. 3-seed and a first-round bye.

The Lady Mustangs, who have lost to the Lady Balers in each of the last two CCS championship games, will play either No. 6 Leland (16-9) or No. 11 Homestead (14-13) in the quarterfinals. the site and time for that contest has yet to be determined.
