Pick up a kaleidoscope, put it to your eye, twist it a turn and then another and another, and discover joyous, magical images that light up the imagination and flash colors and formations you never had never seen before – that is David Shiner’s “Kooza.” The creativity, colors and breathtaking adventures change in less than a second and leave today behind – moving you to another time that you never thought existed.

“Kooza” is derived from the Sanskrit word “kozo” which translates to ” box,” “chest” or “treasure,” and was chosen because one of the concepts of the production is the idea of a “circus in a box.”

Writer and director David Shiner has brought “Kooza” full circle, meeting “Nouvelle Experience” (one of Cirque’s first productions) at its magnificent finale and picking up where it left off to another serendipitous journey with this offering.

I vividly remember David Shiner in “Nouvelle Experience” in September 1990. He was a mime and clown – extraordinary combined with genius. (I never cared for mime until Shiner.) He brought the art to a superb level and I have never forgotten him. Almost 20 years later, I vividly remember the silent movie routine with randomly chosen members of the audience.

His work was so pure and classic it took a place in my head and never left. He has won many awards, has appeared in movies and on Broadway through the years, and now has written and directed Cirque’s latest production – and it is as joyous and fresh as it was almost 20 years ago. I have been an avid Cirque fan ever since.

“Kooza” has everything and then some. (Look out for one of the finest jugglers in the business – he belongs in the Guinness Book of Records.) As I have always said “its not what you do, it’s how you do it.”

Shiner has made this a more innocent, simpler production than its predecessors. It has a freshness and a joy that keeps the audience hysterical and on the edge of their seats with superb talent and raucous humor.

There is really nothing here that you haven’t seen before, but the way it’s presented is what brings the awe and wow factor to your senses like you have seen the moment at hand for the first time.

An exceptionally talented creative team adds stunning costumes, original music and an aesthetically elegant set that brings Cirque’s “Kooza” to the ultimate level of what entertainment should be.

This is a grand family offering (five and up) and an experience that you will remember 20 years from now, I can guarantee it.
