Sales tax

The City of Gilroy has posted a 4.4 percent increase in the City’s sales tax revenues for the third quarter of 2012 – compared with the same time last year – according to figures released by Joe Kline, Public Information Officer for the City.

The main economic engines behind Gilroy’s continued revenue resurgence are identified as the City’s apparel and department stores. Tempering the good news is the fact that used car auto and furniture/appliance sales are down.

Local sales tax revenue rebounded quicker than other cities due to the large consumer retail base located in Gilroy.

Gilroy appears to be following a statewide pattern of sustained upward growth, but at a slightly slower rate than before, states Kline.
