The City of Gilroy is asking residents to apply for an open seat on its Parks and Recreation Commission.

The selected applicant will serve out the remainder of a four-year term set to expire in Dec. 2013, according to a city press release.

A seven-member commission, the parks and recreation board is responsible for advising city officials on matters pertaining to public parks, urban forestry and recreation, as well as items related to planning and programming. Regular meetings are 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday each month.

The City Council will interview applicants and make its appointment during a 6 p.m. meeting Monday, February 6 at City Hall, which is located at 7351 Rosanna Street.

Applications may be submitted by email, mail or in person, and must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, the city said.

Residents can visit www.cityofgilroy.org or call Recreation Director Maria De Leon at 846-0274 for more information.
