Las Animas Dedication

Gilroy – Las Animas Elementary School will hold its dedication ceremony at 2pm Wednesday, at 6550 Cimino St.

Seminars at Gilroy Gardens

Gilroy – The public is invited to visit Gilroy Gardens without the hustle and bustle of the theme park rides. Visit the gardens from 11am to 5pm for special seminars, docent talks and educational exhibits. No rides will be in operation. Seminars are this Saturday, Sept. 28; Oct. 19 and 26. Admission is $12 per person, or $20 for admission with meal included.

Film Class for 55 and Older

Morgan Hill – Adults 55 and older can participate in a free class/film series through the Gavilan College Department of Noncredit Instruction. Humanities 767, “Film Classics” is designed to study the facts, fantasy, history and trivia of classic and modern films. The background and history of each film and its performance will be compared and contrasted. Films will be screened at Morgan Hill Community Playhouse from 2 to 5pm, Wednesday afternoons, through Dec. 5.

Symphony Kicks Off Season

Gilroy – “Romantic Masterworks” will be presented by the South Valley Symphony at the Gavilan College Theater at 7:30pm, Saturday, Oct. 6. Admission prices for this event are $20/adults, $15/senior citizens age 55 and older and $10/students aged 12 to 18. Children younger than 12 will be admitted free with a paid adult. Tickets for South Valley Symphony performances are available at the door or may be purchased in advance at Porcella’s Music, 7357 Monterey St., and First Street Coffee Exchange, 1211 First St., or online at southvalleysymphony.org.

Robot Fighting in Costumes

Gilroy – The 2007 Halloween Robot Terror and Bot Costume Contest takes place Saturday Oct. 27, at Gilroy Hobby, 6901 Monterey Road.

The fighting weight classes are 150-gram flea weights, 1-pound ant weights and 3-pound beetle weights .

Weigh-in at 10am, fighting begins at noon.

After one round of bot fighting in all weight classes there will be a costume contest for the fighting robots. That’s right-fighting robots in costume!
