The Coyote Valley Family Farm Feast will feature something for foodies, families and nature lovers May 11, including locally grown food prepared by top Bay Area chefs, growers, live music and fun activities, according to event organizers.
The free day-long event will be held by the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority to showcase the authority’s most recently acquired preserve just north of Morgan Hill, and offer a day of fun and activities for the community.
“The Family Farm Feast highlights the connection between healthy land and healthy communities and the value of preserving our local farms to the quality of life here in the Valley,” said Andrea Mackenzie, General Manager for the Open Space Authority.
One of the chefs to be featured at the Family Farm Feast is Morgan Hill’s Salvatore Calisi, a Michelin-star chef who operates Odeum restaurant in downtown Morgan Hill, according to OSA staff.
Other area chefs attending are Maurice Errol Dissels of Birk’s restaurant, Bruce Haller of 152 Burger Co., Carlos Canada of Flea Street Cafe, Laura Stec of Laura Stec-Innovative Cuisine, Wes Matthews of Rock Bottom Brewery, Anthony Jimenez of The Table and Anna Pizzo of Zona Rosa.
The Coyote Valley Preserve is a 348-acre preserve located in northwest Morgan Hill, off Palm Avenue. The OSA acquired the property in 2010, and is in the process of conducting public outreach and environmental studies to develop trails, parking and other access features on the property.
OSA staff hope the preserve will be open to hikers, cyclists and equestrians in 2014.
The Family Farm Feast is hosted by the OSA and the Community Alliance with Family Farmers and the Museums of Los Gatos, according to OSA staff. Bay Area Parent and Green Waste Recovery, Inc. are also sponsors of the event.
The events includes all-natural ice cream making, food demonstrations by the chefs, games and nature hikes, according to OSA staff. Entertainment will be provided by award-winning singer/songwriter Andy-Z, the Cornish-Lauder Bluegrass Band, and the Mariachi Band, as well as other performing artists.
