THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

Should the city enact a ban on the sale of fireworks that would go into effect beginning next year?

Yes: 4 No: 8

â–  NO! My neighborhood was like a war zone with mostly safe and sane fireworks going off from dark to about 9:30 p.m. There were no fires nor any other emergency situation. Also, too many charities would be negatively impacted if there is a ban.

â–  No, only because the fireworks for sale are not lethal and, especially for groups like the GHS cheerleaders, this is a vital fundraiser to provide opportunities for the squad to participate in activities that they otherwise could not have due to cost.

â–  No. It’s the illegal ones that cause the problems.

â–  No! This is a Gilroy tradition. Many community programs use this as a major fundraiser.

â–  YES. Taking into consideration the number of responses our police and fire departments have made each year and the difficulty in deciding if people are using legal or illegal fireworks. While a ban would likely put a strain/hardship on the funding for some organizations, they will just have to find alternate sources.
