THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

Should the city pay for medical benefits for City Council members and their families?

Not a penny6

Yes, it’s fair2

Cap it: $150/mo 3

â–  No … not a penny. Council positions are a civic based “part-time” volunteer positions and should be treated as such.

â–  We should pay for their insurance, within limits but the $150 is too low. They should pay their family cost. The council members spend a tremendous amount of time and energy for our community good and there needs to be some appreciation for that effort.

â–  I don’t think that the Council should have the full time employee package, but they should have an option to pay into the city plan as “part timers” if they need medical benefits for their family.

â–  Not a penny. Elected officials should not be given any benefits as this is not a job. It is a voluntary call to service with no expectations of getting anything in return, even a monthly stipend.

â–  Not a penny. If they currently get this benefit, it should be cut. If they don’t have this now, it should not be considered during these times.

â–  Cap it, although good coffee and comfy chairs should be enough! n There should be a factored part of a city stipend that is identified going toward medical benefits. The city should not pay for full medical coverage for the entire family.
