THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

If you were a city of Gilroy employee would you tell your union to negotiate substantial across-the-board pay cuts or to stick with the planned layoffs?

Pay cuts: 8 Layoffs: 2

■ Stick to the planned layoffs. Unfortunately, slicing pay for everyone will create a bigger morale problem than the layoffs will create.

■ Renegotiate the contract. Even if one job is saved it would be worth it.

■ Since planned layoffs don’t go into effect until Jan. or Feb. I’d spend my time looking for another job.

■ Negotiate across-the-board pay cuts.

■ If the across-the-board pay cuts mean from management on down, I would be a team player. If they are just cutting the lower-end jobs I might be better off on unemployment for a few months.

■ Pay cuts, at least I would still have a job.
