What do you think of the shortened Wednesday school days in
GUSD?
THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:
What do you think of the shortened Wednesday school days in GUSD?
A. productive & healthy
B. crying shame
C. great for teachers
– B. The loss of synergy for a typical school week is ridiculous, this is so hard on so many families and not the best method of getting teachers prep time.
– B. A crying shame. The students are in need of all the classroom time they can get. Why can’t training and planning time for teachers be after school?
– B. A crying shame. Just when GUSD schools are lifting their test scores they will take a step back …
– B. We keep decreasing student time to increase teacher planning time, or as a cost savings move, while we should be looking for solutions to increase teacher-to-student contact time.
– C. Hopefully it will give the teachers a little time to rethink and refresh as the education “battle” rages.
– B. Because many people do not understand anything about the public education system in the U.S.A. but have high hopes for it and put their children into it and expect all good things to come from it without totally understanding what makes it work. Dedication from all stakeholders makes it work for all involved.
– B. I’ve been opposed to it from the beginning. The rationale was unified
planning time, but I’d like to see that bargained such that it does not impact classroom time. California has one of the shortest school days and school years in the country and in the developed world. We’re talking about shortening the year AGAIN! We need the extra hour on Wednesdays now more than ever. On a practical note, it wrecks havoc with family and day care schedules. We’re very lucky at El Roble to have BAWSI Girls to use the extra time in a great way.
– C. Teachers spend so much time and money above and beyond, that their “planning” should be included in their regular work time.
– B … or should I say BS! When is this micro managing going to stop! Let the teachers teach, let the principals lead, and let the district administrators … wait, what do they do again?
– C. Opportunity for more play time. Perhaps a chance to catch up on homework. Or, a window for parents and kids to schedule nothing at all.
