Gavilan Starts New Pool, Gym Floor
Students at Gavilan College have new sports facilities to look forward to as the community college moves forward on refurbishing its gymnasium and installing a new pool this summer.
Three Gilroyans on county grand jury
The Honorable Patricia M. Lucas, Presiding Judge of the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, has announced the names of the final candidates for the 2017-2018 Civil Grand Jury. Judge Lucas has selected three members from the 2016-2017 Civil Grand Jury to serve a second term. They are Nigel Johnson (Gilroy), Richard Spencer (San José), and Peter Hertan (Los Gatos), who has been appointed Foreperson. The new Grand Jury will be selected at the Impanelment Ceremony, today, Thursday, June 22, 2017. Sixteen names will be drawn from the list of 27 finalists, to complete the 19-member panel of the 2017-2018 Civil Grand Jury. They will serve a one-year term, ending June 2018.
Red Barn Fundraiser a Success
Despite the weekend heat, more than 100 people showed up to support the Miller Red Barn Association’s BBQ at the Barn, helping the group move one step closer to its goal of restoring the venerable Miller Red Barn at Christmas Hill Park.
Struggling to keep Keeper’s Closet alive

Dispatch’s new associate publisher
Jeannette Close has been named the associate publisher at New SV Media and will head up all advertising and circulation at the Gilroy Dispatch, the Morgan Hill Times and the Hollister Free Lance. She is based out of the Gilroy Dispatch office in downtown Gilroy.
Goodwill launches job center in Gilroy
GOOD ON YA Gilroy’s remodeled Goodwill store at 856 First St. not only looks like a Ross or Marshall’s but has the first free employment service station in Silicon Valley to help people find jobs. The WORKCONNECT Employment Resource Center opened June 9 and Mayor Roland Velasco cut the ribbon in front of a packed house. The center will have full time staff and will give free employment workshops, online job search training, job training, resume help and offers a computer lab. The center is open weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. but closed from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch.
Fifth Street Live starts off the summer in downtown Gilroy
