159948~Home school students must comply—Dear Editor,
The following is a response to a recent column regarding home
schooling:
Interestingly, there is no exemption in the California Education
Code for

home schools.

In other words, education code does not recognize the term

home school

and therefore does not exempt students from compulsory
attendance if they are, in layperson’s terms, being home
schooled.
Frank Valadez is wrong on every count. Local school districts do not have nearly the power he says they have and the steps he outlines are completely contrary to the legal realities set forth in the State Education Code.

The State is quite aware that home schoolers use the private school affidavit to legally conduct their educational activities. Anyone with any interest in home schooling should check out the California Homeschool Network website at http://californiahomeschool.net.

Or…

read the Code!
