CordeValle Golf Course could be the next home to the U.S. Women’s Open Championship.
The San Martin golf course has extended an invitation to host the LPGA tournament as early as 2016 (??). Though the offer has been extended, the deal to host the tournament has not yet been finalized.
“We would like to do it (the U.S. Women’s Open),” CordeValle Director of Golf Operations and Membership Michael Marion said. “We requested to host the event. We’re waiting for the event organizers to see it that happens.”
CordeValle is no stranger to hosting prestigious golf tournaments. They are hosting the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship in September this year and have hosted the PGA Cup and other USGA events in the past.
The last LPGA event that was held in Northern Calif. was the CVS Pharmacy Challenge at the Blackhawk Country Club in Danville from 2006-10.
“We’re constantly looking across the country (for future tournament sites),” Director of Communications for the LPGA Mike Scanlan said. “Certainly we’d love to return to Northern California.”
This year’s U.S. Women’s Open will be held at the Sebonack Golf Club in Southhampton, N.Y. on June 24-30. It will take place in Pinehurst, N.C. in 2014 and at the Lancaster Country Club in Pa. in 2015.
