Gilroy – Residents will have a chance to feast on crab, dance with a loved one to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and support a good cause on Feb. 17, during an event sponsored by the Gilroy Knights of Columbus Council 2469.
The event at St. Mary Parish Hall, at First and Church streets, begins with happy hour at 6pm, followed by the crab feed at 7pm. Proceeds from tickets – $35 a person – will support scholarships and charitable activities. Tickets available at the parish office, 55 First St.

Golf and help fight cancer
Gilroy – Perfect your putting and support cancer research, in the same swing. Saturday, April 14 at the Gilroy Golf Course, participants can compete for a cause in the Drive For a Cure. Proceeds from the Scramble-format tournament support the American Cancer Society. The $90 fee includes golfing, a cart, lunch, dinner, on-course refreshments, a T-shirt, prizes, awards, a raffle and other contests. The deadline to sign up is April 2.

Work abroad in sister city
Gilroy – The city is seeking applicants for Coordinator of International Relations 2007-’08 in Takko-Machi, Japan.
Job responsibilities include, teaching English and American culture, building cross-cultural relationships, arranging international travel, representing Gilroy at events and strengthening sister city relations.
Appropriate candidates will: be from the Gilroy/Morgan Hill area, hold a Bachelors Degree, love people and trying new things, be astute, flexible and motivated. Benefits include medical, furnished apartment and travel expenses. The position officially starts Oct. 13.

Learn the ABC’s of policing
Gilroy – Police are seeking applicants for the annual Citizen Police Academy, a 10-week course that teaches the A to Z of local law enforcement. Applications are available at the Gilroy Police Department, or can be requested over the phone from Community Service Officer Maribel Gutierrez, who is running the program for the fourth time.
Participants must be at least 18 years old, free of felony convictions, have no misdemeanor arrests in the past year, and live or work within Gilroy’s city limits. Background checks are also run on each applicant. Applications are due today.
