This week Gilroy Police responded to a variety of crimes, including pit bull attacks, burglaries, assaults and forgery.
Assault
-Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. on the 2100 block of Gullane Way a juvenile was reported to have bitten his stepmother on the hand.
Commercial burglary
-Feb 1 at 5 p.m. on the 400 block of E. Ninth Street, unknown suspect(s) stole more than $8,000 in truck radiators, air conditioner cooling units and chain link fencing from trucking company. Items were later recovered at a recycling center.
Robbery
-Feb. 5 at 8:46 a.m. on the 7800 block of Monterey Street, three suspects robbed a man as he was coming from a bank. Suspects punched victim in the head and fled on foot.
Animal attack
-Feb. 7 at 10:59 a.m. on the 9600 block of Cherrywood Court, a pit bull ran from its owner’s garage and attacked a Gilroy community service officer who was responding to an unrelated incident. The officer used a bite stick and pepper spray to control the pit bull. The pit bull’s owner was cited and the dog was declared a Level One Dangerous Dog. Level One Dangerous Dogs can stay with their owners, but are reported as an established aggressive dog.
-Feb. 7 at 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of Crawford Drive and Thayer Court, a pit bull owner was walking her dog on a leash when an unleashed pit bull ran up and bit the leashed pit bull on the neck area and refused to release. The leashed dog’s owner hit the attacking pit bull on the nose with a stick in order for it to release. The attacking pit bull’s owner remains unidentified.
Residential Burglary
-Feb. 10 at noon on the 7600 block of Princevalle Street, unknown suspect(s) broke into a residence and stole a laptop computer, a Nintendo Wii with black and pink controllers, a black Nintendo DS, and $20 from a piggy bank.
Forgery
-Feb. 5 at 3:10 p.m. on the 200 block of Gurries Drive, a woman had her credit card stolen by a relation and he used it without her permission. The woman went to the liquor store on Hecker Pass Road where the crime occurred, watched the store’s surveillance video and discovered her relation using her card.
Auto Burglary
-Feb. 5 at 10 p.m. on the 7300 block of Railroad Street, unknown suspect(s) stole an Apple laptop, an iPhone, a Galaxy tablet computer, an iPod Touch, a pair of glasses and schoolbooks from a vehicle.
