Gilroy Police responded to a wide variety of incidents this week. Here are some of highlights from the GPD’s never-ending fight against crime.

Painting someone’s car without being asked to do so, then demanding money for it

Paul Stone carried out some unsolicited repairs on a parked vehicle April 8 in the parking lot of the DMV on Chestnut Street. Stone, 30, approached a woman and ‘offered’ to repaint her vehicle for a fee, said Sgt. Espinoza. The woman, not convinced that her Honda van needed a full re-spray, politely declined Stone’s offer and left. When she returned she discovered that Stone had gone ahead and started the work anyway. According to Sgt. Espinoza, Stone claimed the woman agreed to the curbside service and wanted to know who was going to reimburse him the $40 he had just spent on paint at AutoZone. The damage to the Honda is valued at $1,500. Stone was arrested for vandalism.

Brownell daredevils

Three 13-year-olds decided that riding their scooters on the sidewalk wasn’t enough and took to the rooftops March 31. The trio climbed on top of Brownell Middle School on Carmel Street at 2:40 p.m. with their scooters and proceeded to ride around up there, said Gilroy Police Sgt. Pedro Espinoza. While they were up on the roof they broke three upper windows valued at $900 each. They were arrested, booked on vandalism charges and released to their parents.

Stealing alcohol, possession

Michael Green and Matthew Wilcox, both 18, stocked up on the makings of a good party when they decided to liberate a bottle of rum and a bottle of vodka at 6:50 p.m. April 5 from Walmart on Camino Arroyo. Wilcox was arrested for petty theft and Green for petty theft and marijuana possession.

Weapons

Daniel Felix, 36, allegedly borrowed a sawed-off shotgun and sawed-off rifle from an associate in San Martin. Felix was pulled over during a routine traffic stop on the 500 block of Polk Court Sunday as he was returning them. After saying the weapons weren’t his, Felix invoked his right to remain silent. The investigation is ongoing, said Sgt. Espinoza.

Stolen kitchen and laundry equipment

A residential burglary on the 800 block of Geronimo Drive netted someone almost $9,000 worth of kitchen and laundry equipment April 2. The haul included two fridges, a dishwasher, stove, washer and dryer. All of the items stolen were made by General Electric and the investigation is ongoing, added Sgt. Espinoza.
