GPD continues search for missing teen

Gilroy – Police continued their search for 16-year-old Ebony Carter over the weekend, but were unsuccessful in locating the missing girl.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Teutsch, 29, the man Carter accused of kidnapping her, was arraigned in Santa Clara County Superior Court in San Martin Monday on one count of kidnapping. That charge stems from an Saturday, Nov. 13 incident, in which a woman says Teutsch tried to force her into his white 1986 Dodge van in the parking lot of McDonald’s at First Street and Wren Avenue.

That attempted kidnapping occurred within a few blocks of where Carter told her family Teutsch tried to kidnap her the following day, hours before she went missing. She was due to return to her San Mateo County group home that evening. Her family dropped her off at the bus depot on Monterey Street, but she never returned to the home.

Teutsch could be charged with two other counts of kidnapping, but police detectives first need to interview Carter, Sgt. Kurt Svardal said. The search for her will continue.

Carter also has had no contact with her Gilroy family members since making a cell phone call to her sister last Wednesday, Svardal said. In that call, she said she was hiding from Teutsch and would stay there until he was in custody.
