Gilroy – Gilroy High School will host a free viewing of the film “Invisible Children” in its theater at 750 W. 10th St., beginning at 7pm, today.

The one-hour documentary follows the story of children who are kidnapped and forced to serve as child soldiers in the African nation of Uganda.

Online Gavilan registration

Gilroy – For the first time Gavilan College students can register for classes, add or drop courses, search schedules and access unofficial transcripts.

OnLine Gavilan Access, which debuted this month, is open from 8am to 10pm seven days a week. There is no help desk service available on weekends.

“We wanted to make sure it was working well and easy to use before we publicized it,” said John Pruitt, interim vice president of student services in a written statement. “As it is, a number of students found it on our Web site and found it easy to use.”

SV Symphony tickets go on sale

Gilroy – Tickets for the opening concert for the South Valley Symphony will go on sale Monday at the following locations: Porcella’s Music and Accessories, 7357 Monterey St. in Gilroy; Carole’s Hallmark Store, 779 First St., Gilroy; Booksmart at their new location at Second and Depot Street, Morgan Hill; Postnet Postal and Business Services, 1760 Airline Highway, Hollister; and Mission Gallery in downtown San Juan Bautista.

Season ticket prices are now also available at a price of $90 for adults; $75 for senior citizens age 55 and older and $50 for students ages 12 to 18. They may be obtained by forwarding checks payable to the South Valley Symphony, Inc., P. O. Box 1347, Gilroy, CA 95021-1347.

Tickets to season ticket holders will be mailed to their home addresses in late September or picked up at the Will Call table the evening of the opening concert set for Saturday evening, Oct. 7 at the Gavilan College Theater.

Individual concert prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors age 55 and older and $9 for students ages 12 to 18. The season’s final concert slated for the San Juan Bautista Mission scheduled for Mother’s Day, May 13, 2007 at 4pm, will be priced at $25 for adults, $20 for senior citizens and $15 for students and will include a wine and cheese tasting reception following the concert.

School renaming committee meets

Gilroy – The Las Animas Renaming Committee is staging a meeting beginning at 7pm today at the district office, 7810 Arroyo Circle.

Community members may bring name ideas for the new elementary school.

The school, which will replace Las Animas Elementary School, will be located in southern Gilroy.

A call to artists and vendors

Gilroy – St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church is now accepting applications from vendors for their annual Arts and Craft Fair, a fundraiser for the Gilroy church.

Fair dates are Nov. 3 and 4. The charge to vendors is $60 for an 8-foot table space. Vendors need to donate one hand made item for a raffle.

All crafts must be hand made by the artist.

No commercial products are allowed.

n Friday is Second Sight Day – donate old eyeglasses at either city hall.

n Saturday is Keep Your Gear in Play Day, a great time to donate all sorts of sports equipment to either city hall for redistribution.
