Gilroy Presbyterian Church is having its first Harvest Fun Fest from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church campus. There will be crafts, carnival games, hay rides, a bounce house, pumpkin decorating, dancing, hot dogs and trick or treats.This is a free event for all to enjoy. However, non-perishable food items will be collected for donation to a local food shelf. The church is located at 6000 Miller Ave. Details:

First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave., is holding a Children’s Harvest Festival from 6 to 8 p.m. The church suggests “friendly” costumes. Details:

Halloween Spooktacular

GILROY – The Gilroy Premium Outlets and the Gilroy Police Department bring you Halloween Spooktacular tonight from 4 to 6. Come enjoy a safe and fun Halloween at the Outlets. Kids can learn Halloween safety tips from the Gilroy Police Department. Free trick-or-treat bags and free candy will be given out by participating stores. First 1,500 kids can receive free glow-in-the-dark necklaces from Erik’s Deli Marketplace (near In & Out Burger).

Explore ‘haunted’ center

GILROY – Coyote Lake County Park, 10840 Coyote Reservoir Road, presents its annual “Haunted Visitor Center,” now through Sunday, Nov. 2., from 6 to 10 p.m. each night. Discover what is “haunting” Coyote’s Visitor Center at night. Play chillingly fun games and explore creepy critters in the dark. Bring flashlights, warm clothes and sturdy shoes. Details: 847-7800.

Save a shepherd

GILROY – Petco will be hosting the San Francisco Bay Area “German Shepherd Rescue Showcase Day” on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. SFBAGSR is a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing, fostering and finding new homes for pure-bred German Shepherd dogs. The showcase is a great opportunity to see the dogs and talk to the volunteers about the organization. Everyone is welcomed to ask questions and meet and greet the animals. Adoption volunteers will be available to answer questions about adopting, fostering or volunteering.

Real ghost hunt

GILROY – The Gilroy Historical Society will be investigating old St. Mary Cemetery on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 10 a.m., beginning in front of St. Joseph’s Family Center, 7950 Church St. Explore old St. Mary Cemetery, final resting place of John Gilroy and many area pioneers, accompanied by Mary Garza of the International Ghost Hunters Association. She will attempt “readings” at some of the graves. No charge, but reservations are preferred. RSVP at 848-0470.

Charitable breakfast

GILROY – The local branch 28 of the Italian Catholic Federation will hold “Scholarship Breakfast” on Sunday, Nov. 2, at St. Mary Hall on First Street, Gilroy. Breakfast will include pancakes, eggs, sausages, juice, milk and coffee. Donation is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A bake sale will also be held. All proceeds go to local charities. Details: Pat Cordich at 842-6065.

Gavilan transfer day

GILROY – Learn about college and university opportunities at Gavilan College annual Transfer Day, Monday, Nov. 3, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Student Center, Gavilan College Gilroy Campus, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. More than 40 representatives from UC, CSU and private colleges and universities will be on the Gavilan College campus to meet with prospective students. Safe trick-or-treat

MORGAN HILL – The Morgan Hill Downtown Association presents its seventh annual “Safe Trick or Treat” today, from 5 to 7 p.m., on Monterey Road, between First and Third streets. Furry friends fair

MORGAN HILL – Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter (FOSMAS) is hosting a pet adoption fair on Saturday, Nov. 1 and Sunday, Nov. 2, at Petco, corner of Tennant Avenue and Monterey Street, from noon to 5 p.m. More than 250 animal companions are in need of a permanent home. Find a new furry friend, make a donation to help cover spay/neuter, food and litter expenses or sign-up to volunteer.
