Celebrate Victorian style
GILROY – The Gilroy Community Services Department invite you to “A Victorian Christmas” on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., at the Historic Willey Cultural Center and 1910 Carnegie Library Building, Fifth St. A special “Treasure Hunt” Tour of the Gilroy Museum, quilting display and sale, holiday keepsake and Victorian Tea are planned for the morning and afternoon celebrations. Claudia Salewske will be present to sign copies of her new book “Images of America.”
Admission is $15 per person and $18 to nonresidents. Children 6 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited and deadline to register is Friday, Nov. 28. RSVP at 846-0460.
Rent a caroler
GILROY – Members of the Gilroy High School Chamber Singers are available as carolers.
Rent them for home or office parties, family gatherings, seasonal dinners or any type of holiday celebration. All proceeds are tax deductible and will be used to help send the choir to Germany in April.

Calling entertainers
GILROY – Rebekah Children’s Services is seeking singers, dancers and entertainers for their “Festival of Trees,” event on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6 and 7. Welcome Santa to town
GILROY – “Santa’s Jolly Walk Parade” will be Saturday, Dec. 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The parade culminates with lighting of the city’s official Christmas tree at Fifth and Monterey streets in downtown Gilroy. Santa will receive visitors following the walk at the Chamber headquarters 7471 Monterey St.
The event is sponsored by the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce. Entry forms for the parade are now available; deadline to enter is Wednesday, Dec. 3. Details: 842-6437.
Holiday decorator’s delight
GILROY – The Gilroy City Chamber of Commerce holds its “Holiday Home Decorating Contest,” on Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 6 to 10 p.m.
Residents within the Gilroy city limits are eligible to decorate their homes and compete for prizes donated by South County Realtors Association. First place receives $75, second place gets $50, third place wins $25, Apartment/Condo winners receive $25 and the Neighborhood Consecutive Homes (a four home minimum) winner will get $75.

Fund-raiser boutique
GILROY – A Christmas Boutique will be held at Luigi Aprea School, 9225 Calle Del Rey, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Art, jewelry, toys, candles, Tupperware, holiday scrapbooking and skincare products will be available for purchase. Funds raised will go toward Luigi’s technology department.

Letters from Santa
GILROY – Children are invited to make a wish list and mail it to Santa.
City of Gilroy Youth Commissioners and volunteers from the Senior Center will assist Santa Claus by writing a personal response to your letter.
This is free of charge and for Gilroy residents only. Letters should be dropped off at the Community Services Department at City Hall, 7351 Rosanna St., by Friday, Dec. 12. Details: 846-0460.
Get dessert, too
GILROY – J.R. Brewski’s, 8080 Santa Teresa Blvd., has teamed with Second Harvest Food Bank in San Jose for the holidays. From Friday, Nov. 28, until Sunday, Dec. 22, J.R. Brewski’s will donate $1 of the purchase price for each of its special Cream Cheese Chocolate Decadence sold to the food bank.
Second Harvest Food Bank assists people who are hungry in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. For each dollar donated, Second Harvest will be able to provide two meals. The restaurant is open nightly from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Details: 847-9024.
Sing songs of the season
GILROY – The South Valley Symphony will hold its holiday concert on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4 p.m., in the Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.
Maes-tro Henry Mollicone will lead the symphony in the premiere of “South Valley Fanfare,” an original work by Mollicone, and “Swan Lake Suite,” which will feature dancers from the Morgan Hill School of Dance directed by Paula Valentine. The Gavilan College Choir, led by Phil Robb will also accompany the orchestra in a performance of Vivaldi’s “Gloria.” Soloists Beverly Olivier Blount, on violin, and Patricia Meyers, on cello, will also be featured during the concert. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 55 and up and $7 for students 12 to 18. Children under 12 are free when accompanied by a paid adult admission. Details: 842-3934.
Breakfast with Santa
GILROY – Register now for Breakfast with Santa. The event will be Saturday, Dec. 13, with an 8:30 a.m. seating and a 10:30 a.m. seating. The event is limited to children 3 to 9 years old, who can enjoy breakfast and have their photo taken with Santa. They will also make some fun craft items. Mathematician reads paper
MORGAN HILL – The American Institute of Mathematics is proud to present “A Mathematician Reads The Newspaper,” a public talk by John Allen Paulos on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m., Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, 17000 Monterey Road. Paulos has frequently appeared on radio and television including; “20/20,” the “Lehrer News Hour,” Larry King, David Letterman and a four-part adaptation of A Mathematician Reads The Newspaper on BBC.
