GILROY – St. Joseph’s Family Center will host “St. Patrick’s Dinner” on Saturday, March 13, at the St. Mary Auditorium, 11 First St. Enjoy an evening of fun, frolic and festivities, starting at 6 p.m.

A donation of $25 per person will go to benefit families in need and the homeless in the community. Tickets are available at St. Joseph’s Family Center, 7950 Church St., Ste. A, or by phone at 842-6662.

Garlicky group

GILROY – The Garlicky Group of Poets will hold its monthly poetry reading on Saturday, March 13, at 3:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Gilroy Public Library, located at Rosanna and Sixth streets. Public participation is free and welcome.

Next dimension for photos

GILROY – Old City Hall, 7400 Monterey St., is exhibiting the work of local Realtor and photographer Randy Scott in the Assembly Hall Ballroom now through the middle of March. Scott has endeavored to capture the spirit and nature of the South Valley. His work is known as the fourth dimension in photography, eschewed by Wynn Bullock in the 1960s, which combines double exposure photography and scenic view borders. Help out your ‘hood

GILROY – The City of Gilroy Housing and Community Development, Gilroy Police Department Neighborhood Resource Unit, United Neighborhoods of Santa Clara County and South County Housing present “Gilroy Neighborhood Academy 2004,” at Krazy Koyote Restaurant, 8337 Church St., from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m.

• On Tuesday, March 23, the theme Crime Prevention/Safe Neighborhoods will feature information on 9-11 versus non-emergency calls, gang awareness, graffiti and neighborhood watch.

• On Tuesday, March 30, “Building Your Neighborhood Association” will teach organizing and running a meeting, encouraging participation and building a stronger association.

• On Tuesday, April 6 “Getting the Word Out/Keeping Track of Finances” will be the last session.

Recycle old soil

MORGAN HILL – The Home Composting Education Program for Santa Clara County will hold a free “Composting Basics” workshop on Wednesday, March 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. Discover how to recycle old yard waste into useful soil. MORGAN HILL – Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will hold a Valley Transportation Plan 2030 (VTP 2030) Open House at the Morgan Hill City Hall Council Chambers, 17555 Peak Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 11. The VTP 2030 planning process presents an opportunity for VTA and the community to re-visit transportation strategies and investment priorities and respond to changing conditions and community needs.

Get Footloose

MORGAN HILL – The South Valley Civic Theatre presents “Footloose,” directed by Carol Harris, at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, March 12, 13, 19, 20 and 27, and 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, March 14, 20, 21 and 27. GILROY – Do you enjoy working with people and the outdoors? The docent population at Bonfante Gardens, a nonprofit organization, is looking for volunteers who would like to work in a beautiful garden setting. Previous horticulture experience of any sort is helpful but not a requirement.

Hospice volunteers needed

GILROY/MORGAN HILL – The Kaiser Permanente Hospice Program at Santa Teresa Hospital, 50 East Main Ave., Morgan Hill, is in need of volunteers for the Gilroy and Morgan Hill area. Hospice volunteers are needed to do home visits to hospice patients and families and/or make bereavement phone calls on a monthly basis. Training is provided.
