Gilroy – The City of Gilroy Community Services Department and John Bisceglie present the final performance of ‘Disco Island,’ an annual Summer Children’s Theater Production, in the South Valley Junior High School Cafeteria, 385 I.O.O.F. Ave., at 7:30pm.
Come ‘feel the heat’ and ‘dig the beat’ in this tropical island paradise and take the ultimate musical trip back to the 1970’s. on Saturday. Doors open at 7pm for open seating. Tickets are only $10 per person. All proceeds will benefit the City of Gilroy Youth Programs.

Be in the choir
Gilroy – Registration is now open for the Gavilan College Concert Choir, which begins its Fall semester on Tuesday and meets every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:45pm at the Gilroy High School choir room under the direction of Phillip Robb. The choir is open to all singers, college-age and above. Reading music is helpful, but not required.
This fall semester the choir will be working on a variety of seasonal music for Winter Concerts, including the Handel’s ‘Messiah’ to be performed with the South Valley Symphony. Singers who are interested may register at the Gavilan College Registrar’s Office or pick up materials on the first night of class.

Be part of the music
Gilroy – Rehearsals for the opening concert of the South Valley Symphony will be held Wednesday, beginning at 7:15pm in the band room at Ascension Solorsano Middle School, 7121 Grenache Way.
Openings exist throughout the string section including violin, viola, cello and contrabass and while no auditioning is required, prospective musicians should have a working knowledge of reading music. Position openings also exist in the trombone, French horn and percussion sections. The orchestra will perform a series of five concerts.
There is no cost to enroll as all registration fees are paid for through fundraising efforts, donations, and grants by the orchestra’s board of directors.

History hike
Morgan Hill – Step back in time on Sunday, during a Coyote Creek History Hike from 2 to 4pm.
Walk with a park ranger along the Coyote Creek Trail, visit an historic winery and other reminders of the valley’s past.
Meet at the park office on Malaguerra Ave., Morgan Hill (from U.S. Highway 101 take Cochrane Road east, left at Malaguerra). Bring water and sun protection.

Gilroy – The Gavilan College Small Business Development Center hosts ‘Small Business Marketing’ on Wednesday from 10am to noon at SBDC, 8351 Church St., Bldg. E.
Overview basic marketing strategies including creating a plan to successfully market your business products or services, action oriented strategies for your small business marketing needs and exchange marketing strategies with other small business owners.
The cost is $20, payable in advance or at the door. Special arrangements for people with disabilities will be made if requested five days or more in advance.

Quickbooks made simple
Gilroy – The Gavilan College Small Business Development Center presents ‘QuickBooks 2004,’ a three-workshop series, on Thursday from 6 to 8pm at the SBDC office, located in the Dry Creek Village, 8351 Church St., Building E.
Learn to manage and reconcile business accounts, write and print checks, keep track of income and expenses, accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, inventory, payroll, purchase orders, estimating and many other bookkeeping tasks that are relevant to run a successful business. Also covered in this workshop, will be the ability to generate essential reports including Profit and Loss, and the Balance Sheet. Cost is $90 payable in advance.
Feel free to bring your laptop with QuickBooks 2004 already installed.
