– A man facing felony charges of burglary and auto theft and a
misdemeanor charge of possessing burglary tools delayed entering a
plea Tuesday when his hearing was continued to May 17. Scott
Campione, 41, of Turlock, remains in county jail in lieu of $15,000
bail.

San Martin – A man facing felony charges of burglary and auto theft and a misdemeanor charge of possessing burglary tools delayed entering a plea Tuesday when his hearing was continued to May 17. Scott Campione, 41, of Turlock, remains in county jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
Campione was arrested April 24 after he was shot in the right bicep by Morgan Hill Police Officer Steve Pennington while allegedly fleeing from the scene of a burglary at the former Flying Lady restaurant on Foothill Avenue along the eastern foothills in Morgan Hill. Pennington, who remains on paid administrative leave, told department superiors his weapon misfired.

Gilroy – The Gilroy Branch of the American Association of University Women is holding a Spring Membership Luncheon Saturday, to give interested persons an opportunity to learn more about AAUW. It will be held at Mama Mia’s Ristorante Italiano at 1360-B First St., Gilroy, from 11:30am to 2pm.
Rhoda Bress, of the Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education, will speak on “Making the Grade On A Public School Board: A Parent’s Story.”
Membership in AAUW is open to all persons with a BA or BS degree. The Gilroy Branch includes Hollister and San Juan Bautista. AAUW promotes equity for all women and girls, lifelong education and positive societal change.

Gage, Beall honored for work on homeless
San Jose – Santa Clara County Supervisors Don Gage and Jim Beall were honored as “Distinguished Public Officials” for their work to end homelessness.
Gage and Beall, who are also board members of the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County, were honored by the Housing Association of Northern California.
The men were singled out for their contributions to build affordable housing in the county and their roles on a task force to end homelessness.
Taylor Dial, executive director of the housing trust, said “we are lucky to have such progressive leadership on our board… serving all the citizens of Santa Clara County.”
