Free classes for adults 55 and older
Gilroy – Adults 55 and older can learn new skills and enjoy mind-stimulating activities in a stress-free environment. Topics include Arts and Crafts, Coping with Loss, Music Encounters, Music, Movement and Wellness, Film Classics, Internet Literacy, Tai Chi for Arthritis and related illnesses, and Tai Chi for Wellness. Classes begin Friday, Aug. 11.

Republicans set meeting
Gilroy – The South Valley Republican Women’s Federated Club invites Republican men and women to join their meetings. The next meeting is Saturday, Aug. 12 at Mama Mia’s, 1360 First St. Social at 11:30am, guest speaker and lunch at noon. Cost for members is $20, for non-member it’s $25. An annual membership is $15. Make August count
Gilroy – Gavilan College will offer three classes in a special online session beginning Monday, Aug. 7. The session is designed for students who want to jump ahead by gaining skills and earning transferable credits during the summer.
Three classes will be offered online only for this session: Web Page Authoring, BASIC Programming and C++ Programming.

Summer grief support program
Gilroy – Hospice of the Valley presents Celebrating Our Memories: Storytelling through Photos, a summer grief support program to be held on Wednesday evenings, Aug. 9, 16 and 23 from 6 to 8pm.
Open to adults in the community who are experiencing grief and loss of a loved one. These educational and supportive programs include creative use of photo collages and keeping journals to facilitate the grieving process. Attend one or all three at $10 per evening for art supplies.
