There is nothing like the exciting world of sports to lift a fan out of the dreary winter doldrums. Between the recent cold spells and some serious final exam burnout, many Mustangs have found themselves hitting a major winter slump. Fortunately, as always, the Gilroy High School sports scene provides ample recreational therapy. Just what the doctor ordered:
– High school basketball referees – this Bud’s for you. Say what you will GHS Administration, Ogden’s got passion for the game.
– Success in basketball takes so much more than a roster of the vertically gifted… or so it seems this year.
– Patriots, Bulls step aside, Gilroy has a dynasty of its own: GHS wrestling.
– The new definition of dominance: Hunter Collins and Jesse Delgado.
– Seeing how Bob Knight is known as the General, maybe we should start referring to Armando Gonzalez as the Chief of Staff?
– By the way Mustang fans, we do play soccer at GHS as well.
– Brian Hall and Armando Padilla have quietly gotten their “inexperienced” team into first place; rumor has it, they weren’t very quiet about accomplishing that.
– Side Note: David Beckham’s new five-year contract has him slated to make 97 dollars per second once it goes into affect.
n Jose Hernandez, although no professional referee, has not been too shabby getting his girls to play all out.
– Gotta love the Gilroy High sports schedule. Spring season started Feb. 1, the day before Groundhog Day. No doubt Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and we will have to endure six more weeks of winter.
– Last spring the wet weather wrecked havoc with the outdoor sports; let’s hope for lots of weekend rain and dry game days.
– By the way, head baseball coach Clint Wheeler will soon be receiving his Masters in Administration. Big ups Coach.
– Speaking of baseball, Gilroy looks to improve on its 15-11 record from last season, celebrating the return of six varsity starters.
– If you ever come around the corner of 10th and Orchard and don’t see coach Anderson working on the field, call 911.
– Stanford beating No. 3 UCLA? Sorry Sis.
– If coach Art Silva ever asks you to “go for a walk with him,” you might want to think twice.
– Out with the Villar, in with the Olivera to rule the circle for our softball chicas.
– Serena Williams shocked the Aussie Open; maybe our tennis boys can shock TCAL.
