Gilroy – Gavilan hung tough until the final inning against a team ranked among the top junior college women’s softball teams in the state.
The Rams (8-19 overall, 3-10 conference) fell in a non-conference tilt Saturday to College of the Siskiyous, 13-1.
Gavilan took a 1-0 lead on McBain’s first-inning RBI single. The Eagles scored four times in the third highlighted by Jessica Shiery’s two-run home run.
The Rams kept it close until College of the Siskiyous scored eight runs on eight hits in the sixth inning.
Smart and Rosevear had two hits apiece for Gavilan, which had six hits and left eight on base. Shiery was 4 for 5 with three RBIs for the Eagles.
“We played very well (until the last inning),” Dequin-Thompson said. “Haylie Cloud was very effective for five innings. We didn’t hit the ball like we needed to. We’re still trying to come through with that clutch hit with runners in scoring position.”
Gavilan is at Ohlone for a 3pm game today.
