Introduce Children to Gilroy’s Past

Gilroy – Get a glimpse of Gilroy’s early days Saturday during the monthly historic walking tour led by members of the Gilroy Historical Society. The tour will include the city’s first library, the train station, Old City Hall and the first fire station. Meet at the Gilroy Museum at 10am for the free tour. Auditions for ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’

Gilroy – South Valley Civic Theatre will conduct auditions for “Arsenic and Old Lace Friday and Saturday.

Friday check in is at 6:30pm, auditions begin at 7pm. Check in time for Saturday’s audition is 1:30pm with auditions beginning at 2pm. Call backs (if necessary) will be Monday. Be prepared to read from the script or perform a monologue of choice.

Auditions will be held at the South Valley Civic Theatre Warehouse, behind Kelly Moore Paints, 8565 Monterey Road. Please arrive early to register.

The show will open Sept. 14 and run four weekends with performances Friday and Saturday evenings each week and matinees Sunday Sept. 23 and Sunday Oct. 7 in the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse.

Car and Bike Show at Monte Vista Christian School

Watsonville – Fancy cars, trucks and motorcycles will gather at the second annual Car and Bike show at Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville from 10am to 3pm Saturday, Aug. 11.

Awards will be given for cars and bikes in 34 different categories, including Best in Show.

The event will include radio DJs, a raffle, a family fun area, and jump tents for children. Food will be offered by the full concessions.

Admission is free for spectators. Vehicle registration is $20 for the first entry, and $10 each for additional entries. Vehicles are welcome starting at 9am, and no pre-registration is needed.

Monte Vista Christian School, a no-smoking and no-alcohol campus, is located at 2 School Way, Watsonville.

King Lear Revived

San Juan Bautista – The seventeen members of the Gavilan STAR program will perform “The Daughters of Lear,” their adaptation of Shakespeare’s “King Lear.” The actors, who have been practicing for four weeks through the community college’s summer theater camp, will perform Aug. 13 and 14 at 7:30pm in El Teatro Campesino, 705 Fourth St., in San Juan Bautista.

Tickets are available at the theater box office at $12 per adult, $10 per student or senior and $5 per child.
