Parents of first-graders who may attend Eliot School next year can attend an informational meeting tonight to learn more about the district’s Slingerland Magnet.
Eliot uses a special multi-sensory method of teaching, called Slingerland, which appeals to students’ sight, movement and hearing. All kindergarteners in the school district are tested to see if they would benefit from the Slingerland method of teaching.
“GUSD is unique in that all kindergarteners are screened for learning style,” said Barbara Nickerson, Slingerland resource teacher for the district. “The screening aids in making a successful first-grade placement.”
The school’s four first-grade teachers will attend the meeting and will probably demonstrate a Slingerland lesson, according to Nickerson.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. today at Eliot School, 470
Seventh St. Details: 842-5618.
