Ernesto B. Aguirre passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 18, 2012, at the age of 89. Ernesto was born in Sommerset, TX on May 30, 1922, to Refugia and Anastasio Aguirre. Ernesto was the seventh of ten children and was preceded in death by his parents and six of his siblings.
Ernesto served as a Sergeant in the US Army during WWII in Europe from 1942 to 1946, during the Invasion of Normandy. In 1952, upon returning to Texas, he married his long time sweetheart, Rachel. They settled In San Antonio, TX. In 1965, they decided to move to California with their daughter Esther. He immediately began working for Tony Lomanto Trucking as a diesel mechanic. Ernesto retired in 1977 and worked part-time for Sam Bozzo Orchards repairing farm equipment, and delivering Meals on Wheels for Jovenes de Antano for 18 years, which he whole-heartedly enjoyed.
Ernesto was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who adored his family. He had a strong work ethic; enjoyed gardening and building projects at home with his wife.
Ernesto loved watching nature programs and westerns; his favorite actor was John Wayne. He also enjoyed playing the lottery.
Ernesto is survived by his loving wife Rachel of 59 years; daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Albert D. Ribeiro of San Juan Bautista; daughter Ruth A. Aguirre of Salinas; granddaughter and grandson-in-law Priscilla and Richard; and his beloved great grandson, Trystan.
Ernesto leaves a legacy of love, generosity and a caring heart for his family and friends. Ernesto will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Friends are invited to attend the Visitation on Thursday, January 26, 2012, from 12:00 noon until 8:00 P.M. as well as the Memorial Service which will begin at 6:00 P.M. at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home Chapel 870 San Benito St., Hollister. Burial with full Military Honors will be on Friday, January 27th, 2012, at 1:30 P.M. at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.
A Celebration of Life Reception for family and friends will be held Saturday, January 28th, 2012, at 1:30 P.M. at the Hollister United Methodist Church Social Hall, 521 Monterey Street, Hollister. CA.
