Gilroy – Some $45,000 worth of high-end appliances were stolen from a home under construction on Butch Road in the east foothills of Gilroy.

An unknown number of suspects took a Subzero refrigerator valued at $12,000, a Wolf range valued at $9,000, a $4,000 bathtub, a kitchen sink, loose tiles from the garage, and outdoor wall lights sometime between Friday, Aug. 4 and Monday, Aug. 7, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Deputy Serg Palanov said.

Palanov said there were no signs of pry marks or forced entry, and that someone may have used a key to enter the house.

“Somebody knew how to get in,” Palanov said.

A copper sink, miscellaneous building materials and mirrors were also taken, Palanov said. The size and amount of appliances stolen leads deputies to believe that trucks were used to transport the goods.

“It’s not unusual to see trucks pulling up and leaving construction sites all the time,” Palanov said. “So it’s not that a truck leaving might not be noticed, its just that someone might not think much of it.”

Investigators photographed the scene and collected fingerprints. The incident is under investigation.
