Members from the Gilroy FFA chapter attended a Regional Leadership conference Oct. 11-12, where more than 275 FFA students united at the 2014 South Coast Region FFA, Chapter Officer Leadership Conference in Hollister.
The FFA is an organization that promotes leadership, personal growth and career success. At this annual event, students attended various workshops, which serve to encourage and motivate these leaders to return to their schools with a new outlook on life and a positive attitude with new ideas.
Attendees had the opportunity to listen to various speakers such as Leah Gibson, the past state president from Paso Robles FFA who is California’s National FFA officer candidate. She was joined by the state and regional leaders. The many workshops and activities taught the elected leaders to have a positive attitude and influence, as well as to stay away from negative aspects of society, such as drug abuse, low self esteem and racism.
According to Regional FFA President Joelle Lewis, the event was a huge success.
“This conference was truly a unique experience where people from different communities and backgrounds were able to come together not only to learn, but to have a good time,” Lewis said.
Attending the conference with the students were local FFA advisors who also participated in a professional development meeting at the event.
