Investigators from the Gilroy Police Department Anti-Crime Team on Saturday arrested Joshua Williams, 23, for multiple charges related to weapons and drugs.

Detectives executed a search at William’s address on the 700 block of First Street in Gilroy, where they located a firearm, ammunition and methamphetamine. Williams is a convicted felon, meaning he is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. The serial number of the firearm was also obliterated, which resulted in additional charges, police say.

Williams was a passenger in a vehicle at the time he was contacted by police. The driver of the vehicle, Robert Altamirano, was also detained for a violation of his parole terms.

Williams was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition; being a felon with a violent history in possession of a firearm; possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number; and possession of methamphetamine.

The event occurred without incident, according to a GPD press release. Evidence supporting the allegations against Williams, and “indicia consistent with gang membership,” according to the press release, will be provided to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for review and prosecution. Williams and Altamirano have been booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

Anyone with additional information is urged to contact Detective Gonzales with the GPD Anti-Crime Team at (408) 846-0350.
