Local community college students win in the make-up category in
beauty skills contest
Gilroy – Ladies, add Jeannette Pinon to your speed dial – her make-up skills are bound to come in handy in the event of a break-out emergency.
The Gavilan College senior nabbed first place in the make-up category at the annual Nino Faggiano Team Competition for California cosmetology students at the Coconut Grove at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk last month.
Sharon Sherick, another Gavilan College student, also proved that she knows a thing or two about eye shadow and blush brushes. Sherick placed second in the make-up category.
The competition, produced by the Cosmetology Associations of Central Bay, Santa Clara Valley and Golden Gate, is part of the annual Beauty at the Beach event. A total of 47 teams enrolled in public and private cosmetology schools throughout the state competed in the salon skills contest.
The Gavilan College cosmetology department offers instruction to men and women in all phases of cosmetology. The Scientific Skin Care or esthetics certificate program offers a comprehensive skin care program.
The programs fulfill the requirements set by the California State Barbering and Cosmetology program and are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Graduates leave armed with the knowledge to take the Barbering and Cosmetology license examination and the skills to compete in the real world, according to a Gavilan College press release.
Cosmetology students offer a variety of beauty services at reasonable prices. All work is performed by students under the supervision of instructors.
