Gilroy – A retired educator of more than three decades could be Gavilan’s interim vice president of instruction and student services.

The Gavilan College board of trustees will vote tonight as to whether Victor Krimsley should be hired as the fifth person to occupy that position in as many years. Krimsley is the frontrunner after a month-long nationwide search conducted by Professional Personnel Leasing, a headhunting firm.

“I’ve know him for a number of years (and) he’s familiar with the job,” college president Steve Kinsella said.

Krimsley’s most recent job was vice president of instruction at Hartnell College in Salinas. He served there for 32 years, acting as an instructor and administrator, before retiring in 2004.

College staff hope to begin a nationwide search for a permanent vice president at the end of September. The staff hope to have the process finished by January, in time for the start of the next semester.

Krimsley would be a good person to fill the position in the four-month period because of his extensive experience and his flexibility, Kinsella said.

“There’s a number of folks that are out there that have retired from the system,” he said. “When you bring ’em in, they already know the job.”
