Gavilan’s Tony Amaral was at the helm for two of the team’s three runs, helping it complete the sweep of Lassen Saturday at home. 
The Rams beat Lassen 3-2 in the series finale Saturday for the sweep. They beat it 5-1 on Friday. 
Gavilan trailed Lassen 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh when Amaral singled to score Matt Peterson for the tying run. Brennan Wilson scored off a passed ball for the winning run. 
Amaral was 1 for 4 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Nate Christopherson was 2 for 3, while Wilson went 1 for 3 with a run scored and a double. 
Lassen scored its runs in the top of the third and top of the sixth.
Erik Barron got the win on the bump, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out nine through seven innings. 
On Friday, Barron got the Rams off to a hot start with a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning. The blast gave Gavilan a 2-0 lead as Amaral already scored off a John Forestieri single. 
Foresteri hit another RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to score Jalen Salazar and put Gavilan up 3-0. 
The Rams added another in the bottom of the seventh when Amaral came home as Barron was being chased down. He was eventually caught stealing, but not before Gavilan could take a 4-0 lead. 
Lassen’s lone run came in the top of the eighth, but the Rams got it back in the bottom half of the inning when Sean Allen scored off an error. 
Nate Bonsell recorded his first ‘W’, allowing just one run on seven hits through seven innings. He also struck out two and walked one. 
Forestieri and Barron were both 3 for 3. Forestieri had two RBIs, while Barron had a homerun, an RBI and a walk. 
Amaral was 1 for 3 with two runs and a walk. 
Gavilan (3-1) will play at San Francisco City at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
SOFTBALL
Rams split with Reedley
Gavilan split its season opener with Reedley Thursday, dropping the first game 14-5 and winning the second 18-17 in eight innings. 
Mari Rodriguez hit an RBI-double in the bottom of the eighth inning to win beat Reedley in Game 2. She had a single, two RBIs, three walks and a double in that game. 
Adri Ortega scored four runs and drove in two RBIs for Gavilan in the second game. She also walked, was hit by a pitch and had three basehits. 
Brittany Newman, Sam Parraz and Crissy Simpson all scored two runs for Gavilan in Game 2. Newman also had an RBI-single, while Parraz had two doubles and two RBIs. Simpson also had a walk and a base hit. 
Also in Game 2, Anissa Martinez had three hits, two RBIs and a run. Tori Lobato, who also pitched, scored two runs and had a single and a walk. Ruby Sa’avedra singled and double, was hit by a pitch twice and scored two runs and drove in an RBI. Erica Baxter had two RBIs, a sac bunt, a walk and scored twice. 
In Game 1, the Rams allowed Reedley to jump out to 4-0 lead in the first, but answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Reedley then scored 10 and didn’t give up another Gavilan run in the game. The game only went five innings.
Ortega had two RBIs, a double and single in Game 1. Newman had a run, a single and was hit by a pitch. Rodriguez also had an RBI and a double. 
Martinez stole two bases, had a run and walked. Parraz had an RBI-single, a stolen base and pitched four innings. Baxter also scored a run.
Gavilan (1-1) will play at noon Tuesday at Porterville College.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
West Valley edges Gavilan
Gavilan outscored West Valley in the second half, but fell just short of a ‘W’. 
The Rams dropped their fifth straight game, falling 67-60 to West Valley Friday in Saratoga. 
Stats from this game weren’t immediately available. 
Gavilan (2-17 overall, 1-6 in conference) trailed 36-21 at the half and rebounded by outscoring the hosts by nine in the second. 
The Rams will host Hartnell at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALLL
Rams fall to Mission
Felicia Lee-Cardenas posted 19 points against Mission, but it was the latter that came out on top. 
The Rams were unable to erase a 20-point first half deficit and lost 84-50 to Mission Friday in Santa Clara.
Lee-Cardenas also had four steals, two rebounds and an assist in the game. 
Natalia Armstrong added 10 points, three steals, three rebounds and two assists for the Rams. 
Brittany Valdez was stellar defensively, pulling down 10 rebounds in addition to five assists, two steals and two points. 
The 9-13 Gavilan will be back on the court at 5 p.m. Wednesday to host Hartnell.
