The Rams’ season may not have gone according to plan, but they ended things on a high note.
The Gavilan women won their season finale, 64-47, at Cabrillo Friday.Â
The Rams were led by Tawne Haynish who posted 19 points in addition to six rebounds and two steals. Andreinna Castenda led the defensive effort with 21 boards and a steal while scoring 15 points.
Gavilan ends its season with a 4-20 overall mark, 3-9 in conference play.
SOFTBALL
Gavilan sweeps Porterville
Paige Miguel found herself in the circle in both games of Gavilan’s doubleheader with Porterville Friday.
Miguel went the distance in Game 1 — allowing only one hit, a run and a walk — helping the Rams to a 4-1 win. She picked up the save in Game 2, as they won 3-2 to complete the sweep. Miguel pitched two innings, giving up a hit.Â
Gavilan struck first in Game 1, scoring in the bottom of the second. Porterville answered with a run in the top of the 4th, but the home team scored three in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.Â
Samantha Ribeiro went 1 for 3 with a triple, a walk, a stolen and three RBIs in that game.
Gavilan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in Game 2, but Porterville evened the score with two runs of its own in the top of the fifth. Gavilan answered with a run in the bottom of the inning for the win.
Kayla Medrano led the Rams in that game, going 2 for 3 with two runs.
Gavilan (11-3 overall, 1-0 in conference) will return to conference play at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hartnell in Salinas.
BASEBALL
CCSF edges Gavilan
It all came down to one run.
The City College of San Francisco topped Gavilan 12-11 Saturday at home, after a back-and-forth contest.
CCSF, already leading by two, scored four runs in the top of the ninth and Gavilan was able to answer back with five of its own, but fell just short.
The Rams loaded the bases and kept them that way, bringing home three of their five runs in the ninth with the bags full.Â
Eric Guill-Perez led the Rams, going 3 for 5 with two RBIs, a run, a stolen base and a walk. Landon Cord was 1 for 4 with two RBIs and a double, while DJ Santellano was two RBIs, two walks and a run.Â
The Rams will open conference play at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ohlone.Â
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Cabrillo drops Gavilan in finale
The Gavilan men’s basketball team ended with an 83-50 loss at Cabrillo Friday.Â
