Choir Director Phil Robb leads the Gilroy and Christopher HIgh School Choir during their final Spring Concert Wednesday April 16 at Mission San Juan Bautista.

The Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved naming the Gilroy High School choir building in honor of Phil Robb, the iconic choral director who retired June 14 after a 30-year career instilling the joy of singing to Gilroy high schoolers.
Under Robb’s direction since 1984, the music program at Gilroy High School flourished and grew to a widely revered program among academic and musical communities throughout the state and beyond. When CHS opened up in 2008, Robb took that on, too, building the department from scratch and laying the foundations for another choral program as he darted back and forth teaching at both campuses during the week.
“We are very excited to be taking the next steps to officially name the building in Phil’s honor,” wrote GUSD Superintendent Debbie Flores via email.
In honor of Robb, the district also plans to paint a wall inside the choir building. The goal is to finish the project by the end of summer.
To make a donation to help fund the plaque and painting, checks can made out to the GUSD Phil Robb fund and mailed to:
