Adam Gemar might have been the only member of the Gilroy High
field hockey team feeling nervous before Thursday’s first-round
Central Coast Section playoff game against visiting Homestead.
Better the coach than the players.
The Mustangs came out of the gates red-hot on offense to take a

GILROY – Adam Gemar might have been the only member of the Gilroy High field hockey team feeling nervous before Thursday’s first-round Central Coast Section playoff game against visiting Homestead.
Better the coach than the players.
The Mustangs came out of the gates red-hot on offense to take a 5-0 lead at halftime and eventually win by a score of 10-0.
“They were pumped,” Gemar said of his players. “I was nervous. Every year it gets tougher because it gets closer to the seniors’ last game.”
Farewells will have to wait as Gilroy now faces Presentation at Willow Glen High School on Saturday. The time of the game has yet to be determined. (Check online Friday afternoon for an update.)
Elise Ogle scored the first three goals of the game for a hat trick, and was followed by Lexi MacPhail and Jennifer Rose, who scored at the halftime buzzer.
Jenna Vivian and Alex Rose each scored twice to start the second half, and Stellie Nelson capped the day with the final successful shot.
Gilroy was incredibly efficient on offense, scoring on better than 50 percent of its shots. On defense, the Mustangs limited Homestead to two shots total.
“There was hardly any mistakes and everybody played hard,” Gemar said.
