Gilroy After Hours Rotary brought more than 45 volunteers to the Uvas Creek Parkway for the inaugural “Pitch In” community clean-up day on Oct. 10. Joining in the event were Rotarians and family from the Gilroy Sunrise Rotary, Gilroy Noon Rotary, and local Boy Scout troops.

With a 40-yard debris box donated by Recology, hundreds of pounds of trash were collected along the creek and walking trails. From abandoned shopping carts to discarded carpets, after the three-and-a-half-hour event, the Uvas Creek was pristine.

“Gilroy is a beautiful town, and these volunteer efforts demonstrate the shared interest in community pride through this clean-up effort,” Gilroy After Hours President Mark Vivian said. “The support was a resounding success.”

Gilroy After Hours “Pitch In” was made possible through the contributions of materials and supplies from Recology, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Vivian Investment Partners, Café 152 Bread Company and Danny Mitchell for City Council.

The Gilroy After Hours Rotary celebrated its one-year anniversary in July 2020, and since the club’s formation, members have provided volunteer and monetary support to St. Joseph’s Family Center with meal service and food distribution, Community Solutions with two diaper drives, Mt. Madonna YMCA with their holiday toy drive, and the “Pitch In” community clean up efforts. Gilroy After Hours Rotary joins in the coalition of local Rotary clubs offering morning, noon and after hours options.
