Gilroy – Pontiac Buick GMC parts and service director Frank Leccese is leaving the Gilroy business after 23 years.
“It’s been great. This is by far the best place I’ve worked. There’s low turnover and it’s more of a family atmosphere than anything else,” Leccese said. He is moving to the East Coast where he will work for General Motors in fixed operations. “I am parting on good terms. It’s something I’ve wanted to do and everyone has been supportive,” he said.
John Cavanaugh, who has worked at Pontiac Buick GMC as a technician and shop foreman for 22 years, will lay down his tools and take over as service manager.
“It’s going to be tough not working on the cars but hopefully it will give me better perspective in working with the customers,” he said. Cavanaugh is at the top of his field, having achieved many awards including two prestigious General Motors honors.
Cavanaugh and fellow Pontiac Buick GMC technician John Rojas are two of 200 General Motor technicians in the United States honored with both Master Technician and World Class Technician.
“The award is recognition for a lot of hard work and training. A lot of years of experience have gone into it and off duty work preparing for exams,” Rojas said.
In order to become a Master Technician they needed to obtain Automotive Service Council (ASC) certifications, complete prerequisite training courses and go through a hands-on assessment. Technicians can achieve Masters in eight categories of auto repair. World Class Technicians have reached Masters in all categories.
Rojas has been in the business for 26 years and said he is appreciative of the recognition.
