The California Highway Patrol is ramping up its efforts to crack down on drunk drivers with several checkpoints tonight in Santa Clara County.
CHP officers will establish a DUI checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. tonight on Masten Avenue at Manna Way. Traffic volume permitting, officers will check all vehicles and arrest all drivers who are impaired due to drugs or alcohol.
CHP will conduct additional checks in San Benito County Aug. 27.
“All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by intoxicated drivers,” said CHP Captain Tim Saxon of the Hollister-Gilroy office. “Our objective is to send a clear message that drinking and driving do not mix.”
