Passed away at her residence on March 27th at the age of 87 years. A native of Indianapolis, Indiana; Bettie has resided in Hollister the last 62 years. As an active businesswoman, Bettie was a manager for the Department Of Motor Vehicles Offices in San Benito County and neighboring cities over a span of 25 years. A 65 year member of the Methodist Church, her life revolved around her church, her family, and her community. She was an avid bridge player, cook, and baker, who loved to travel with her husband, Roy. In addition to visiting all states in the U.S., trips were taken throughout Europe, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. She is a member of the C.S.E.A, and was a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Grandmothers Club. Besides her husband Roy P. Schmidt, Bettie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ted N. and Diane Schmidt; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law Leslie and Pat Michael and great-grandson Michael Michael of Redwood Valley, CA; sisters Louise Taylor and Sandy Barber of Lakeland, FL; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jeff and Jeanne Schmidt of Bitterwater, sister-in-law Amy Lou Hall of Oklahoma, and many nieces and nephews. A daughter of the late Talmage and Ruth Hawkins, she was preceeded in death by her brother Talmage Hawkins, and sisters Bonnie Gray and Ellie Stangohr.
Sally Todd, of Gilroy, passed away January 8, 2008. Funeral services will be held 4:00 pm Saturday, January 12th at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 Fourth St., Gilroy.
Michael Taylor, former resident of Madera, CA and current resident of Hollister passed away on January 11th, 2011, at Stanford Medical Center after a brief illness.
Germana Bettencourt Afonso Cabral entered this life on May 31, 1929, and took her-walk with Jesus on May 8, 2011, at St. Louise Regional Hospital with her nephew and two great-nieces by her side, after a brief illness.
Born in Monterey, California and grew up in Hollister. Julie passed away peacefully on January 28th after a courageous battle with cancer. Remembered lovingly by her husband of 63 years, Elmer Azevedo of Gustine, where the couple made their home since moving there in 1952. Julie will also be missed greatly by her daughter, Judy Cabral of Paradise and her son Gene Azevedo of Yuba City.
Carol Ann Sasso-Carlson passed away September 26, 2007 in Gilroy. She is survived by her husband Harry Carlson of Gilroy, sister of Elaine Wolters and husband Ted of Anderson, CA and John Sasso and wife Jean of Monte Rio, CA, aunt of Randy Bratton and wife Lisa of Sebastopol, CA, great-aunt of Peyton Bratton of Sebastopol.
