GILROY - Sonya Elizabeth (Carter) Cardenas passed away Wednesday, June 6th, 2007, at her home. She was born on April 2, 1956 in Gardena. She worked in Research and Publications at San Jose State University for the Mineta Transportation Institute. She graduated from Branham High School in San Jose in 1974 and attended San Jose City College. She is survived by her husband, Rudy Lee Cardenas of Gilroy; son, Michael Gould Cardenas of Gilroy; stepsons, Jessie Cardenas of Idaho and Paul Cardenas of San Jose; mother, Sonia N. Carter of Roseville; brother and sister-in-law, Harry N. and Sandy L. Carter of San Jose; sister, Diana L. Carter of San Luis Obispo; brother and sister-in-law, Gary G. and Eva Carter of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry G. Carter in October 2004.
Virginia Belle Samuelson passed away at the age of 78 on Wednesday evening at her home in Hollister. Virginia was born in Glendale, CA, having lived in Long Beach and Hayward prior to coming to Hollister 45 years ago. Virginia was an active member of Hollister United Methodist Church and had been a track coach for 24 years for the San Benito High School. She was recently chosen to be a member of the high school Hall of Fame. Virginia was a Audiometrist in which she did hearing testing for 40 years.
Philip A. Bettencourt, age 66 years, passed away suddenly on Wednesday at St. Louise Regional Hospital. He was the son of Betty Ann Bettencourt and the late Arthur Bettencourt and long time companion of Frances DelReal. Arrangements are pending.
Gilroy native Richard Charles Porcella passed November 4, 2009, at his home in Los Banos, CA. He is lovingly survived by his two children Esther Ann Porcella, Rick A. Porcella, best friend and mother of his children Wanda Porcella, granddaughter Giulia Campos and son–in-law Michael Campos. Also surviving him are his four siblings Carol Porcella, Bob Porcella, David Porcella and Barbara Porcella-Marcosa. He leaves behind many friends of all ages. We will all remember him with music, love, belly laughs and a little mischief in our hearts. He was a talented musician who could play and repair any instrument. He was a wonderful cook, plant charmer and artist. Please join in the celebration of his life this Sunday, November 15, 2009, 2:00 P.M. at Habing Family Funeral Home.
Entered into her new life on January 13, 2009 surrounded in her home by her husband of 50 years Jim, her three children Michael, Kelly and Trisha, as well as her grandchildren. Her sister, Lolly, her closest living relativre, was also present and cared for her often during Helen's 41 hospitalizations and 29 surgeries for cancer and the effects of radiation.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M., on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Habing Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 20th from 5:00 P.M. - 6:30 P.M.
