Thelma Avelar Dekum

Thelma Dekum passed away at the age of 89 at Hospice in Monterey on Monday. She attended Salinas High School and Salinas Junior College (now Hartnell). After college she was an executive secretary at McCarthy's Insurance Co. in Salinas and after her marriage to Robert Dekum, she worked for the Monterey County Public Works Department until her retirement. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Catholic Daughters of America and Beta Sigma Phi.

Irene Carbone Mosso

Irene Carbone Mosso passed away peacefully at home on February 11 surrounded by her family. A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, Irene immigrated to the United States in 1937.

Neva was a resident of Hollister, CA for many years. She was a dedicated volunteer at the Hazel Hawkins Hospital gift shop and a devoted member of the Hollister United Methodist Church.

Larry Jones

Larry Jones passed away at Mabie Skilled Northside in Hollister this morning at the age of 52. Arrangements are pending at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory.

Oscar W. Strong

Oscar W. Strong passed away Last Saturday at the age of 93 in Daly City. He was born in Newell, South Dakota, coming to Hollister in the early 1970s. Oscar, along with many years in carpentry work, went to work with Bechtel Construction in Saudia Arabia building oil installations, then later, went to work with the Federal Government at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey,CA. He later had worked at the Hunter's Point shipyard in San Francisco, where he worked on refurbishing many US Navy vessels. Oscar was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge in Hollister and the Hollister Elks Lodge, BPOE 1436.

Ruth M. O’Shea Hemming

Ruth M. O'Shea Hemming passed away at Stanford Medical Center at the age of 79. She was born in Illinois and lived in Hollister for 28 years moving here from San Jose, CA. She worked at Hazel Hawkins Hospital for 20 years in same day surgery department, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Orianna Chorale.

Carol M. Macfarlane

Carol Macfarlane passed away at her residence on Wednesday, February 11th at the age of 72 years with her family at her side. Carol and her loving husband, William "Bill" Macfarlane whom she married 52 years ago, settled in San Benito County in 1984 at the Ridgemark Golf & Country Club. Besides being a loving wife and devoted mother, Carol was a Banker for Bank Of America both in Gilroy and San Juan Bautista for a period of 14 years. She had been an active member of Immaculate Conception Church before her health prevented her from doing so. Besides her husband Bill, Carol is survived by her children and their spouses Michael and Stacey Macfarlane of Antioch, Thomas and Jill Macfarlane of Hollister, Joseph and Gina Macfarlane of Folsom, and James and Karen Macfarlane of San Jose; her grandchildren Lindsay, Courtney, Haley, James Buck, Cole, Jacob, Jessica, Rachel, and Ryan Macfarlane; her brother and sister-in-law Stanley and Patricia Shifflet of Baja, Mexico and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Grace Bravo

Mary Grace Bravo passed away last Thursday at the age of 86. She was a resident of Mabie Southside Skilled Nursing Facility for the past 6 years. She is the daughter of the late Aniceto and Teresa Bravo who preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Dolores Perry and her brother Frank Bravo as well as many nieces and nephews.

Robert William Aiassa

Robert Aiassa passed away at Stanford Hospital with his family by his side. He was born and raised in San Jose. His parents were Frank and Elsie Aiassa. Robert started Aiassa Trucking after serving as a Merchant Marine during WWII. He drove a truck for 62 years. He was still driving until December 9, 2008. Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly, sons, Steven and Michael, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
