At 3:30 p.m. Wednesday the Gilroy Police Department responded to a report of a robbery at Rabobank on 761 First Street.

During the investigation the GPD determined the suspect entered the bank and made demands to the bank tellers, who complied with the suspect’s demands.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the area, according to the GPD.

“We’re all OK, the staff was very professional,” said Rabobank manger Deanna Franklin Thursday morning, who was present during the time of the robbery. “We’ve been here almost eight years and have never been robbed. I can’t believe someone was that gutsy.”

Franklin, who confirmed the suspect was carrying a weapon at the time of the robbery, said she plans on reaching out to mangers of other local banks today in an effort to raise awareness.

“Maybe that will put them on high alert,” she said. “If we all ban together, maybe these individuals will know there’s a network of branch managers watching the banks.”

Despite the aftermath of Wednesday’s chaos Franklin added community support has been incredibly encouraging.

“I’ve gotten so many calls from customers who were really concerned,” she said.

Police describe the suspect as a white male adult, approximately five feet, 11 inches between the ages of 30 to 40. Police say the suspect was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, cargo shorts and tennis shoes.

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this robbery can contact Detective Devlin at (408) 846-0350. Parties wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at 1-800-782-7463.
