Gilroy – Police gang officers are investigating an attempted murder that occurred during a fight in East Gilroy Tuesday afternoon.
A group of several Hispanic males, believed to be from about 17 years old to their mid-20s, were engaged in a fight on the 500 block of Old Gilroy Street near East Street about 4:42pm.
When officers responded, they found one of the males involved had suffered several stab wounds. The 17-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital, where he remained Wednesday morning. He was expected to recover, police said.
Several people who saw the incident were identified and interviewed by police. Because the incident is believed to be gang-related, members of the Anti-Crime Team, which handles gang cases, is continuing the investigation.
Arrests are expected, police said, but it was unclear at press time how many suspects were involved in the fight.
