Gilroy High’s varsity boys golf team started Tri-County Athletic league play by hosting a tournament Monday of last week at Gilroy Golf Course.
Finishing in fourth place with a score of 216, Mustangs coach Eric Kuwada said there was plenty of room for improvement.
” We have lots of work to do,” Kuwada said. “We are battling some confidence issues and our techniques are rusty. We have to keep improving and work hard for the next three weeks.”
Gilroy’s nine-hole individual scores were as follows: Wes Thegles, 41; Kelly Cox, 43; Chris Martinez, 43; Tyler Park 44; Mitch Goldsmith, 45; Jonathan Higgins, 46.
After competing in a TCAL tourney at Corral de Tierra Monday afternoon (scores were unavailable as of press time), the team will have a two week break. Kuwada said his players will need to hit the range as well as do work on the course to work towards a second place finish in league, good enough to qualify for the Central Coast Section tournament.
“April will be a stretch where it will determine how we finish in league,” Kuwada said. “We have the talent to compete for the second spot in the TCAL, but we will have to work hard to get there.”
