The Gilroy 11-year-old All-Stars defeated the San Jose All-Stars 17-1 to win the District Section 5 Championship. The girls will be moving on to compete in Antioch in the state tournament beginning on Friday.
Boys 9-10 All-Stars
Gilroy National’s run in the All-Star tournament came to an end Friday with an 11-8 loss to Live Oak. They placed fourth in the 12-team tournament.
Gilroy jumped out to a 8-3 lead with a 7-run third inning, but Live Oak came back with three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth while shutting out Gilroy in the final three innings.
Gilroy had seven hits in the game. Jacob Vasquez had a single and two RBIs. Brendan Reimer, Christian Alonso, Ethan Cline and Jonathon Holliday all had RBI singles. Justin Hale and Zachary Loo each contributed with singles.
Hale pitched three innings, allowing four hits and four walks. Brendan Reimer pitched three innings, striking out two.
Jacob Vasquez made the play of the game, charging in hard from right field to make a difficult catch to end the Live Oak fifth inning. Hale also made a nice leaping catch on the mound. Holliday also made two nice plays at third on sharply hit ground balls.
“It was a fun run and it’s sad to see it end, but we are very proud of the boys,” said coach Jim Reimer. “They played very well overall, doing a great job representing Gilroy in this All-Star tournament.”
